Free Mental Health Workshop and Florida PTA Town Hall

At the invitation of Florida PTA President, Carolyn Nelson-Goedert,  DCCPTA is serving on the planning committee for Florida PTA’s upcoming Educational Town Hall to be held in Jacksonville. The goal of the event is to gather stakeholders to participate in a conversation on how best to ensure student achievement as we prepare our District’s students for success in a global economy. The Duval County Council of PTA is offering a new award based on PTA Unit participation in the PTA Leadership Workshop. Criteria for Award: 3 ITEMS must be met in order to qualify. PTA/PTSA has a minimum of 5 members from their local unit each attend 3 hours of the county leadership workshop classes. Advocacy Training – Support Your Children

In the context of PTA, advocacy is supporting and speaking up for children — in schools, in communities, and before government bodies and other organizations that make decisions affecting children. Duval County Council of PTAs offers Grassroots Advocacy Training. This training is designed for those who are interested becoming effective advocates for education or for those interested in teaching the next generation of PTA leaders the skills to be effective issue advocates. Build The Best Tower Team Activity

Team Goals: Build the best tower. Group Size:  From 4-8 participants per team that are random assigned. Time requirement: 45 minutes is what the activity was designed for.  It can be adjusted for as little as 15 and as long as 1 hour and 15 minutes. Materials required:  Each team (4-8 per team) will need a closed container that includes different and an unequal amount of building supplies.  Make sure one is obviously more deficient then the others.  Here are some of the possible building supplies: Paper
